Mário Rui Silva

Originally released in 2021 and long out of print, Stories From Another Time 1982–1988 returns in an upgraded edition following years of demand and requests for a repress. Recorded between Angola, Portugal and France during the 1980s, Mário Rui Silva’s music exists in its own world somewhere between semba, folk, spiritual jazz, saudade and dreamlike electronic experimentation. Drum machines, delicate percussion, floating synthesizers and extraordinary guitar playing come together in a body of work that still feels difficult to place in time. This new edition features a half-speed mastered 45RPM cut by Stuart Hawkes at Metropolis Studios, alongside an expanded 4-page insert with new writings, photographs and reflections following Mário Rui Silva’s passing in 2024.
